Little Nightmares

I've recently replayed the Little Nightmares series and have realized little things in the world that have made me think. Little Nightmares one and two are a puzzle horror game where you have to hide and maneuver around several monsters in the game. I have made a few theories on what different parts of the game could mean. For instance, every single monster that is shown is a disfigured adult. There's a teacher, cook, hunter, etc. While you appear to be very small you have to sneak passed these monsters who tower over you. I feel these resemble common fears most children have especially the school. In the school there are these broken dolls that set traps to kill you. These traps resemble things that a bully could use such a mop bucket filled with water. Throughout this part of the game you can hear demented giggleing and shadows for these dolls following you around and watching. When you finally get to the teacher theres some off very off about her. She has a constant smile and when spotted her neck extends, kinda like a giraffe, and it chases you. This remind me that the teachers are always watching and surveying the classroom for misbehavior. Another level in the second game was the hospital and it scared that crap out of me when i played it. When in the hospital there mannequins that are dressed like patients with gowns or prosthetic limbs and bandages everywhere. These mannequins move....when your not looking. What makes this scarier is your in the dark with a flashlight. If the flashlight is not on the hundreds of mannequins then charge at you. While walking down the hallway there are mannequin reaching through the walls trying to grab you with there grotesque hands. I think going to a hospital can be scary for a kid think there a a bunch of hurt or dying people and all they can do is watch. I’ve been to the hospital to visit family members and it’s not fun. About every hour or half an hour there was some form of alarm for critical health going on and that can be frightening for a child. Lastly, theres the hunter and all his mysteries. The hunter is quite self explanatory to why he’s creepy, one he has a weapon and two he kills animals. Your also investigating his house that’s in the middle of the woods. As your walking through the house there are his stuffed family members which is highly concerning. I can see why a kid would be scared of a hunter and their house because most hunters keep the heads of the animals they’ve killed. Overall I believe the little nightmares series is about a child’s exaggerated perception on different places and what they could be scared of.

  1. It's interesting how put through a certain lens or perspective, natural fears or tendencies in general inside of people can be used as a means for creation inside of numerous types of works. How an artist could draw a bleak or monotone landscape to express their inner struggles and turmoil when the backdrop in reality is merely gorgeous and full of color. How a seemingly normal action could be perverted into countless others with a single literary thought, or even a mere school experience laying the footwork for a game such as Little Nightmares.
    Overall, nice :).
