The Mage's Apprentice


      What i chose to read this time is the first two volumes of Ancient Magus Bride which is both a beautiful yet chilling series. I would not recommend it if you don't like horror or dark themes that depict animals or people. Personally, I don't think this would be labeled completely horror, but it certainly has parts of it that 100% are. The main character is a girl named Chise (chee-seh) who is a Sleigh Beggy which is a rare type of human that can see and speak to demons/monsters that no one else can see. Resulting in this people thought the poor girl was possessed or weird because she was always talking to them or scared of them. Obviously from the outside point i can see that but it's still cruel to neglect a child due to that. In the beginning of the books, she is told Seigh Beggy's don't live long due to them absorbing magic around them involuntarily. The constant collection of magic puts strain on the body and eventually kills them. We then see the second main character Elias who is a demonic beast mage who has a skull head of a wolf with horns. Okay I know it sounds weird but look.

     Only Minor detail to add is Chise becomes Elias's apprentice mage. Now we get to the darker parts of the story. Eliase gets paid to basically get rid of demons and hurt souls for instance. in the second book both the characters go to a village to help them out. This is where they meet one of those restless spirits and she shows Chise her memories. For one this was both sad and very disturbing. The woman was a frail woman all her life and was slowly dying.  The wife in question absolutely loves cats. Her husband was bound and determined to save her, so he meets a man who manipulates him into thinking he can take one of the nine lives from the cats and give it to his wife because they will be "reborn". The wife then walks into a room full of dead cats HANGING FROM THE CEILING! In the end the woman got cursed to be a lost soul until Chise saves her allowing her to move on.

                                

Both of these were darker than I expected I thought it was just going to be just a fantasy manga, but I was wrong. P.S the cats get their revenge so no worries.

I do have to say these books hold up on both world building and fantasy. The world is so pretty from the dragons to the magic it keeps you entertained.                                                                      
    To leave on a good note I will shoe you my favorite things in the entire two books. The Wooly Bug and the Axolotl!

    I really enjoyed your blog! I like how you added pictures. I feel like it really helped me to better understand what you read. How does the wooly bug and axolotl play a role in the story? Are they just there, or do they have a big part??

      The wooly bug and the axolotl are mystical like characters in the story that don't play big parts but show up every now and then.

    Okay..I have heard of this before, but -10/10 BECAUSE OF THE CATS ON THE CEILING D:
    But in all honestly, its very nicely laid out with pictures and interesting to read ^^ 4.5/5 files found.

    I actually really like how you explained Chise. I know it was only a sentence or two, but I really liked how you explained the being that she is if that makes any sense. But that was a little horrifying when I read something about those dead cats. But even though I don't read this kind of genre, you always make it sound interesting. 5/5!

Little Nightmares one and two are a puzzle horror game where you have to hide and maneuver around several monsters in the game. A Dystopian World

     For those who don't know the hunger game is basically a fallen U.S. dystopian that has twelve districts. Each districts have its own wealth and problems, Katniss, the main character, lives in the poorest district, district twelve. Each year the government called the capital holds an annual Hunger Games in which a boy and a girl's name from each district will be drawl from a bowl. They will then have to participate in the huger games and compete to the death until there is one winner. Kaniss's sisters name gets pulled and she ends up volunteering to take her place in the games, Peeta being the boy that was pulled. I found three things that i found quite intriguing while reading The Hunger Games by Suzzane Collins.     The relationships in the book felt more real than in the movie, specifically between Rue, Peeta and Katniss. A Demonic Plauge

           So I picked up the first three volumes of Girl from the Other Side which is a manga/graphic novel. The volumes are a bit short so I decided to just put them together. Most graphic novels are either about a romance, a superhero, or both. But this book was different. The book is set in a dystopian world where there is a demonic plague of creatures going around. If you get touched by sed creatures you become one. The main character, a little girl named Shiva about the age of five or six, is drawn in all white so she stands out amongst the dark world. Then we get to the second main character, a monster plagued with the curse of looking like one of them while still retaining his humanity, looks after the child after finding her wandering in the woods on her lonesome.
